HP Printer error code 49.4c02 is an error code that you should expect as an HP printer owner and in this guide, we have outlined some simple yet crucial steps you can take to solve the error yourself. It will often interrupt the tasks being performed by your printer. The common cause of the error is having way too many jobs in the queue than normal.

Let’s fix it!

Fix 1: Delete Print Queue Jobs:

The major cause of this error can be having too many jobs in the queue waiting than usual you so be sure to reduce them to a reasonable number and the best way to do this is by doing this:

On Your PC tap on the Printer Icon usual in the bottom right of your PC. This will open up the Printer and you should see all your files in the queue.

In the menus on your screen hit on Print Queue list. Go on and delete the list of all files available to start again.

I would suggest you perform a power cycle by unplugging your Printer and then give it a couple of seconds then try again. if this doesn’t work then how about trying the next option.

Fix 2: Disable Advanced Printing Features.

Here is exactly how you could do this:

Tap on the Printer icon in the bottom right of your screen

Select the Printer Queue option

Next is to simply select the printing preference

On the next screen select the “Advanced” Option.

Finally hit on the Advanced Printing Features, by tapping on it you should see the next option.

The disable option. Now tap on it to disable it.

Once you have done so, fire up the queue again by deleting the available queue and restarting over to avoid future errors.

Fix 3: Update the Printer Firmware.

Printers operate using Firmware just like some computers using Windows. All you should know is the firmware operating system is for a printer and it also needs updates or upgrades.

Outdated firmware is the major cause of many errors including this one. Firmware updates are available and you should always take them up immediately they are out to avoid bugs, errors, and glitches in the future…

Here is how to do it.

Get your printer into Ready state and. The other common trigger of this error can be adding a PDF file into the queue so the best fix you can opt for is to delete the queue and start over without the PDf file or convert it otherwise.

On your PC, navigate to the Printers and Scanners by clicking on the Windows icon in the bottom left of your screen or by hitting the windows key on your PC. Here you should see the queue and you can decide to delete the queue and start over.

To delete the queue simply right click and you should be good to go.

Fix 4: Print a PDF as an Image.

The error can be caused by cahnage in the printing queue file formats. Meaning iof you were printing word documents and then add a PDF file in the queue this throws the printer off abit.

The PDf file comes with many formattings and fonts that are to complicated to handle therefor the best option and solution you can take is to print the PDF file a an image and here is how to do this.

The very first step in solving any printer Error is to clear the queue and so you should do the same for this step. Simply navigate to the printer icon on your PC or computer and then change the view to printer queue/ queue list in the menus at the top.

The most common font that disrupts printers is the Franklin Gothic Book font so if you have that enabled switch to another font or consider installing the font naturally on the Printer using a plugin like WebjetAdmin. This is complicated but if you have time we recommend it.

Right click and dlete the queue that easy.

Next go on and then Restart the printer.

If you wish to print the PDF file as it is without changing it to word then following this sequence.

Hold down the Windows key (don’t let go) and P on your keyboard to bring up the Print Window. For modern computer swithout Adobe you can take a screenshot crop the PDF and then print the Image that way.

Place a Check next to Print As Image. Click OK and Print the document.

Please note that the location of the Print As Image option may vary from printer to printer and computer to computer to computer. Some PCs come with Adobe Acrobat meaning it is much easier but for others

You will need to navigate to the PDF file open via Microsoft or Chrome then hit on Print in the menu above and then Advanced > Print as Image > If you don’t see it then ensure your PC is updated with the latest updates.

The other best bet you can try is to redownload the file again as the current may be corrupted. Or just simply convert it to Word.

Fix 5: Update Drivers to PCL6 Driver

The concept here is simple though it may seem compliacted but you can do it. The PCL6, PCL5 or PCL5e are printer script languages used in drivers for printers to keep them updated and running smooth.

Opting to use the PCL6 drivers for HP printers can get rid of the 49.4C02 error.

To install the PCL6 drivers, you don’t need any complicated tools but simply go to the HP’s drivers support website.

On that page you should be able to enter your printer model name under “Enter my HP model number” query box. You can find your Printer Model number on the fronmt of your Printer for others it may be below or behind depending on the size or make/model.

It is usually a sticker with the Model Number in Bold

The support page will open for that printer. Next you need to select your Windows version under Operating system and continue

Next you will see some results simply click on the Driver – Universal Print Driver to expand the options.

The next step is to search for HP Universal Print Driver for Windows PCL6 and Click the Download button. The download should start automatically on Your PC.

Once you have downloaded the zip file, simply open it up. It should open it up in the file explorer but what you need to do is to go to downloads in the left menu in file explorer and under the today section find the xip file you just downloaded.

Simply right click on it and then find the extract all in the menu you see. Usually at the top of all options. The download should start and the unzip will as well.

Once it is done open it up and follow the screen instructions and you should be good to go.

Alternatively you can Uninstall the target printer set already and then Reinstall it. On the next screen as it asks for drivers, ignore the default ones and choose those you have just downloaded.

If you were following along you should guess that the PCL6 drivers you downloaded should be in the downloads folder. You can also search for the folder using the search in file explorer.

Restart your computer and Printer as well to try again and print to see if the error is gone. If not then try the final solution we have for you.

Other things you can check on include:

  • No faulty cables or wiring.
